Pinehurst is a village located in Moore County, North Carolina. As of 2000, Pinehurst was home to 9,706 people. Pinehurst is home to world-renowned golf facilities and unique charm. The quiet community of Pinehurst is an excellent vacation destination and an even better place to live!
The village is home to the Pinehurst Resort and was also the home of the 1999 and 2005 U.S. Open Golf Championships. Pinehurst is also the former home of the World Golf Hall of Fame, which is now located in St. Augustine, Florida.
Pinehurst History
James Walker Tufts was a resident of Boston when he purchased about 598 acres in North Carolina, aiming to create a health resort there in 1895. The plan was formed for the resort only three weeks later, and in 1900 Tufts hired Donald Ross to develop the golf courses.
By the 1960s, the resort property was sold to the Diamondhead Corporation. Diamondhead created over 7,000 lots and units for sale along with membership and access to Pinehurst’s resort facilities. In 1980 Pinehurst officially became an incorporated municipality.
In 1996, The Village of Pinehurst, including Pinehurst Resort, was given National Landmark status for their historical, significant role in U.S. golf history.
Pinehurst Parks and Recreation
The Pinehurst Parks and Recreation Department offers a variety of programs for every one of all ages. There are organized athletic leagues, special events, exercise classes, special events, and many festivals. The Parks and Recreation Department prepares a Program Guide twice a year that details upcoming athletic programs and special events.
Cannon Park
Cannon Park is a 15 acre facility with 2 baseball fields and a small practice soccer field with restroom facilities. Cannon Park also has a walking trail and is home to Camelot Playground. Cannon Park also features a covered picnic shelter available for rent.
Rassie Wicker Park
Rassie Wicker Park is the site of Village Hall, the police station, and the new fire station. Amenities include and inline hockey rink, a soccer field, a playground, 2.3 miles of paved walking trails, and a concession stand.
Pinehurst Greenway System
The Pinehurst Greenway System currently has 5 miles of trail.
Village Arboretum
The Village Arboretum consists of 35 acres of land adjoining the Village Hall. Although is it currently under construction, the arboretum already offers a magnolia garden area, a large meadow, and many paths. Once it is finished, it will be a public park perfect for running, walking, or biking!

Ruth Pauley Lecture Series
The Ruth Pauley Lecture Series brings Moore County highly qualified speakers, debaters and discussion leaders to present objective and varied points of view on important issues. The Ruth Pauley Lecture Series offers at least one annual critical study of a local, state, national or world issue of concern to Moore County’s residents.

Pinehurst has been known as “The Golf Capital of the World” for many years. Pinehurst offers over 45 amazing golf courses ready for your use. Many of the courses located here have been ranked in Golf Digest’s Top 50.
Pinewild Country Club
The two championship courses here are both stunning and challenging to golfers of all skill levels. The Magnolia was designed by Eugene Hamm. The Holly, a Gary Player Signature Course, is fast becoming an area favorite due to its panoramic beauty and risk-reward layout.
The Spa at Pinehurst
The Spa at Pinehurst, a 31,000 square foot facility, offers a variety of services including body therapies, skin care therapies, intensive facial therapies, hydrotherapies and message therapies.
